Specialized Bicycles matches Erik’s Bike Shop Donation for Elm Creek Singletrack Project

Specialized Bicycles has matched Erik’s Bike Shop grant to help development of 7.7 miles of singletrack in Elm Creek Park Reserve. This trail will help to meet a need for singletrack in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis and, because it connects to 20 miles of multi-use path, it will serve as a gateway to mountain biking in the park.

After a couple of years in the planning stages, Three Rivers Park District will begin construction of a new 12.5-mile sustainable, non-paved trail in Elm Creek Park Reserve this summer. Designed in partnership with volunteers from Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC), the trail will provide an intimate experience with the natural surroundings for mountain bikers, hikers, snowshoers and trail runners. The sustainable design techniques will reduce erosion and maintenance needs and make the trail experience more enjoyable. It is anticipated that the trail will open in June 2011.
